About Bill Miller
Bill Miller, the visionary founder of Miller Sports, has a profound connection to the world of skiing that spans decades. Born in Chicago, Illinois, his journey to the mountains began when his family relocated to Bronxville, New York, just outside of New York City. Bill's father would take the family to Vermont every weekend, creating memories at Bromley Mountain, their go-to ski spot.
During Bill's college years, he had a transformative trip to the Alps that solidified his desire for a life connected to the mountains. Taking a break from his studies, he decided to live in Vail, Colorado, for a ski season. After completing his business degree, Bill made a permanent move to Colorado. In the early 1980s, he worked at Aspen Leaf, a prominent ski shop in Denver. A few years later, he became the manager at Turning Point Sports in Denver before eventually relocating to manage their new store at the time at Copper Mountain.
It was during this time that Bill's fascination with speed skiing took hold. He delved into researching and acquiring the necessary equipment to become a speed skier, leading him to enter his first professional race in France in 1990. For the following six years, Bill raced around the world, achieving remarkable speeds over 100 mph on skis more than 120 times, with his personal best reaching an astonishing 130 mph.
In 1997, Bill teamed up with his speed skiing friend, Jeff Hamilton, to open Hamilton Sports in Aspen, Colorado. The duo's combined passion and expertise created a destination that quickly gained recognition in the skiing community. Building on this success, Bill opened his second store in Aspen called Miller Sports. His vision for Miller Sports was clear—to establish one of the top stores in the ski industry. Even before its inception, Bill traveled extensively to Europe, sourcing the finest European brands to offer in his store.
